Located on the Caperton Trail just off University Ave. and near the Westover Bridge, Hazel Ruby McQuain Park overlooks the Monongahela River and offers visitors a unique riverfront experience. The park offers several amenities, including a picnic grove beneath the Westover Bridge, access to the Walnut Street Landing plaza and kayak launch, gathering areas and no shortage of green space.
The park is best known for the Ruby Amphitheater, a nationally recognized performing arts venue in the heart of downtown Morgantown. With a 1500+ seat capacity, including fixed seating and no shortage of lawn space, concert attendees are able to enjoy a clear view of the stage and flowing river scenery no matter where they sit.
Since 2022, the Ruby Amphitheater has hosted the Ruby Summer Concert Series, a free series for attendees featuring legendary performers in all genres of music from the first Friday in June to the last Friday in August. The park brings in local food, beverage and activity vendors during the series for concertgoers and highlights local musicians as openers. Some of the most popular past performances include Jo Dee Messina (2022), SmashMouth (2023), Plain White T’s (2024), Chase Matthew (2025), The Village People (2025), Everclear (2026) and Hanson (2026). The series was ranked 3rd in the Best Outdoor Concert Series in the U.S. by USA Today for 2024 and 2025, and currently holds the Best Festival title in Morgantown Magazine.
Park facilities are also built to accommodate community events, with ADA accessible pads, a shaded outdoor area, a terrace and the renovated Morgantown train depot for indoor community space and retail. The space is perfect for hosting weddings, festivals, marathons, meetings, small receptions and more.
