With a scenic beauty route, as well as a covered bridge and historic veteran’s route, no two rides are the same. Ride through small towns as you roam our West Virginia hills.
SCENIC BEAUTY ROUTE
Nothing beats hopping on your bike and going for a ride when the sun is shining and there’s a warm breeze in the air. Many motorcyclists can enjoy riding three out of the four seasons here in the Wild and Wonderful State. Each season welcomes new scenic beauty, and we have the perfect routes for you to catch a glimpse of “Almost Heaven.”

Dorsey’s Knob Park: Climb to the top of Sky Rock for a spectacular view of the Morgantown area. Bring your Frisbee! The park has a new 18-hole disc golf course.

Coopers Rock Overlook: The main overlook furnishes a panorama of the gorge and distant horizons. Trails are especially lovely in June when the rhododendron and mountain laurel are in bloom.

Bruceton Mills: Stop in Bruceton and get gas at Little Sandy’s Truck Stop, then head to Big Sandy Brews or Cupcake Me Home for a coffee or beer!

Greatest Generation War Museum: 100% authentic military garb and supplies. Visitation is by appointment only unless you happen to catch them there.

Limestone Mines: A cold sensation can be felt as you ride by due to the air from the two large limestone mine entrances on the right side of the road and can be viewed from the pull off.

Cannon Hill Historic Site: Union soldiers and Rowlesburg Citizens held back around 10,000 confederate troops from destroying the town’s bridges and cutting off a main supply for Union troops.

Cathedral State Park: An ancient hemlock forest of majestic proportions and one of the last commemorations of the vast virgin hemlock forests that once flourished in the Appalachian highlands. Trees up to 90 feet high and 21 feet in circumference form the cloisters in the park. Also, enjoy restroom facilities and a picnic area.

Smoke Hole Caverns: The caverns’ history is tied to the Seneca Indians and now provides visitors with breathtaking scenery below the surface!

Seneca Rocks: One of the best-known scenic attractions in WV and a local landmark in Pendleton County, the rocks are a magnificent formation rising nearly 900 feet above the North Fork River and are popular with rock climbers.

Canaan Valley: Located in Tucker County, it offers hiking, biking, skiing, fishing, and golfing.

Blackwater Falls: The amber-colored waters of the Blackwater River plunge five stories, then twist and tumble through an eight-mile-long gorge.
Nothing But Curves Route
While a scenic ride can be relaxing, some individuals seek a more exciting ride. Luckily for you, you can experience the thrill of winding left and right and up and down as you take on our curvy routes through our West Virginia hills.

Captain James Booth Memorial: The founder of the first settlement in the valley in 1772, who was shot and killed by Indians.

Monroe’s Deli Style Eatery: Healthy and tasty food is on the menu as well as good music and an eclectic atmosphere.

Cool Springs Park: Gas, restaurant, and farm all in one stop! The restaurant serves Buckwheat Cakes all day long and famous footlong hotdogs!

Little Sandy’s Truck Stop: Homemade food that hits home whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Apple Annie’s: Blends small-town charm, homestyle food, and famous desserts that have earned a loyal following among locals and hungry travelers alike. Offers Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Covered Bridges Route
Our state is known for its hidden gems, including the many covered bridges scattered throughout it. Take these routes to drive under one or more of them, or stop to relax and learn a little history on your ride.

Dents Run Covered Bridge: Erected in 1889, the bridge is 40 feet long, 13 feet wide, and utilizes the Kingpost truss design.

Barrackville Covered Bridge: Built in 1953, the structure is a modified arched Burr truss, with siding added twenty years after the bridge’s construction.

Simpson Creek Covered Bridge: Built in 1881, the bridge is a multiple-kingpost truss structure. It was washed out by a flood in July 1889 and later relocated to its current location a half-mile upstream.

Carrollton Covered Bridge: The wooden bridge spans the Buckhannon River near Carrollton and was built in 1856.

Philippi Covered Bridge: The oldest and longest covered bridge in WV It is the only covered bridge serving the US Federal Highway system (U.S. Route 250).
Veterans Memorial Route
Thousands of motorcyclists honor U.S. Veterans each time they get on their bike. Whether you’re a Veteran yourself or you know someone who is, you can take a memorable ride with this red, white, and blue route.

Private Jesse Taylor War Memorial: Jessie Taylor, Pric. CO. F, 7th Regt. West Virginia Vol. Infy. Taylor was the first soldier killed in the war of the Rebellion at Romney, WV.

Korean War Memorial: Located in Fairmont, WV at the East Marion Park, this memorial features a nearly 125-foot-tall flagpole to reflect the 38th Parallel of Korea.

West Virginia National Cemetery

First National Cemetery: Located in West Grafton of Taylor County and was appropriated by the federal government in 1867. This is a permanent burial site for the Union soldiers who died in hospitals and battlefields throughout West Virginia.

General McClellan First Headquarters: AKA: Anna Jarvis Birthplace (founder of Mother’s Day). This wooden two-story structure was built in 1854 and became a focal point of the Civil War when General George B. McClellan used it as his headquarters, and his troops encamped across the house in what is now Ocean Pearl Felton Historic Park.

Springhill Township Honor Roll

Evergreen Memorial Park: The 100-acre park is graced by rolling meadows, rustic cabins, and a beautiful barn overlooking a reservoir and the foothills.
Flight 93 Memorial Route
…while you’re riding, you can also honor those of Flight 93 with this special route that leads to Ohiopyle State Park.

Ohiopyle State Park: Located at the southern reaches of the Laurel Ridge. Consists of a small community and about 20,000 acres of natural beauty and offers biking, hiking, rock climbing, and fishing.

Flight 93 Memorial: Located at the site of the United Airlines Flight 93 crash, which was hijacked on Sept. 11, 2001. Because of the actions of the 40 passengers and crew aboard Flight 93, the attack on the U.S. Capitol was stopped. Visit www.nps.gov/flni for more information.

If you’re looking for a quick ride, check out this route that will have you out and back, and back again! From well-known restaurants, historical sites, and parks, you will gain a lot out of these short rides.

Valley Falls State Park: Offers fishing, picnicking, kayaking, and 18 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. The beauty of the park is enhanced by a series of waterfalls created by the Tygart Valley River.
Haunted Prison Twisties Route
For those who crave mystery, history, and adventure, this drive offers scenic beauty and the chilling history of the Moundsville State Penitentiary, where spirits are said to linger.

Moundsville State Penitentiary: The retired Gothic structure was first opened in 1876 but closed in 1995. The site has been turned into a tourist attraction, offering daily tours and overnight stays. Visit wvpentours.com for more information.
