In this beginner blacksmithing workshop, you will have the opportunity to work in Arthurdale’s historic 1930s forge, which was the home of the Mountaineer Craftsman Cooperative Association’s metalworking operation.
By the end of the class, you will have forged your own decorative hooks to take home. Through this project, students will learn:
- Basic safety and blacksmithing techniques
- How to use the horn of the anvil to make curves and hooks
- How to make decorative twists
Things students should wear/bring:
- Closed-toe shoes, preferably leather or work boots
- Primarily natural fiber clothing (no synthetic fabrics like polyester)
- Safety Glasses/aprons if they have them already (extra safety glasses will be provided)
Students will be required to sign a waiver before the start of class.
